Coby TFDVD7091 7-Inch DVD/MP3/CD Player and ATSC/NTSC TV Tuner, Black ReviewDespite the Amazon description of this as a "portable dvd player", this is strictly a shelf unit, nothing portable about it. The product box it ships in even describes it as a "micro-shelf unit". Because the Amazon product description calls it portable, and because one reviewer stated that it could be used with the speakers separated or as one unit, I mistakenly believed the speakers were attachable and the unit could be moved about as a portable unit. This is not the case. The speakers are strictly detached with about four feet of cable for each. We wanted to be able to pick it up at a moments notice and carry it to the basement during storms and also take it on trips. It cannot be used for either easily, and there is no handle with which you can carry it or battery option, hence it just is not a portable TV/DVD player.
Prior to this, we bought the Naxa NDL-400 7-Inch TFT LCD Display Portable DVD Player with Digital TV TUNER, AM/FM Stereo Radio, USB Input and SD/MMC Card Slots that actually was portable, but the sound quality on dvd playback was too poor for us and it did not play audio cds so we sent it back. Lastly, after the Coby we tried the only other boombox 7" tv/dvd unit left on Amazon that I could find, a GPX BT780B 7 Inch LCD Portable TV/DVD/AM/FM Boombox, and it was very flimsy and by far the poorest quality of the three.
After playing some Christmas cd's like the Vince Gauraldi Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack I have to say the sound on the Coby is impressively good for a small plastic speaker and much better than the NAXA and GPX boombox models. Gauraldi's piano notes came across very well defined. Very surprised, though there is not much bottom available if you want your music to thump. I was tempted to keep it for the music purposes only but don't need to spend the money on something that clearly does not meet our needs.
One caveat to mention, the tray that holds the disks appears to be VERY flimsy and longevity may be an issue. If you need a small shelf unit with all these features and want to take a chance on the dvd player lasting awhile, I'd recommend it. It just isn't what we wanted or expected based on the "portable" description. We did not attempt adjusting the screem image, but on the default settings it was not as bright or pleasant as the NAXA model.
I usually have better luck getting what I expected based on Amazon descriptions, but not with this "portable" Coby.Coby TFDVD7091 7-Inch DVD/MP3/CD Player and ATSC/NTSC TV Tuner, Black Overview

Coby TFDVD7751 7-Inch Tablet Portable Dual Screen DVD Player, Black ReviewWe purchased this unit for a road trip with our young children. I couldn't have asked for a better unit. We paid about $140 with fulfillment by Amazon.
It comes with all the cables you'll ever need: A/C adaptor, car adaptor, cassette adaptor (not sure what that's for), cables to connect DVD player to a TV, cable to connect DVD playing unit to the second monitor, two sets of headphones. Also comes with remote control and batteries.
The included cases that hold the units to the back of the front-row headrests were easy to install and work fine. The car cord reaches from the front seat all the way to the outlet in the trunk of my Honda Odyssey, leaving the front outlet available for phone/ipod/gps/etc.
The picture is clear on both screens, and sound from either unit was clear and loud enough even on bumpy roads. Anti-skip technology worked well.
Potential Cons (and I'm really stretching to call them "cons"):
1. You have to unplug, then take the player out of the headrest-mounted holder to change the DVD. I didn't think this was hard to do; I'd get the movie cued up before replacing the unit in its holder.
2. DVD player takes an extra moment or two to skip ahead when you press the >> button. This is relative to a nice DVD player I have in my family room at home. I can't see how this would inconvenience anyone too much. It's a matter of a few seconds, not "forever."
3. Headphones are a strange design, I couldn't figure out how to get them to fit on anyone's head. They do work, we plugged them in just to test them out, but we never intended to use them, so I didn't try too hard to figure out how to make them fit. I'll give Coby the benefit of the doubt and assume they probably do fit on someone's head, somehow. [update: I got a teenager to show me how the headphone goes around the ear. I feel so OLD.]
4. Be careful where you store the screens; like other portable DVD players, they can scratch.
BOTTOM LINE: Just what we needed, high quality video and audio on both screens for a great price! Highly recommend.Coby TFDVD7751 7-Inch Tablet Portable Dual Screen DVD Player, Black Overview

Haier HLTD7 7-Inch Handheld HDTV with Built-In DVD Player, Black ReviewGreat set with wonderful picture. Sound is weak so I added Bose Music Monitor speakers and that completely solved that problem (connected to earphone jack). Internal speakers are OK while on the go. This set is identical to one sold by Supersonic but picture quality of Haier is superior. DVD works well. Remote is well laid out and superior to the one that came with the Supersonic. The antenna connection is recessed and diffacult to get to without a wrench. I added a 90 degree screw adapter from Radio Shack and now the connection is easyly made.
Love the dvd feature and added Bose speakers for home use. Set is easy to operate and quality superior to Supersonic.
PLEASE NOTE: Set is black and much better looking than the picture showen. I have two of these units and use one everyday in my bedroom.
In my area an external antenna is required ---- I use the internal/external DIRECTIONAL dish from Radio Shack---cost about $87.00.Haier HLTD7 7-Inch Handheld HDTV with Built-In DVD Player, Black Overview

Coby DVD233BLK Compact DVD Player, Black ReviewI had a silver metal coby DVD player that actually lasted a couple of years before it froze and would no longer recognize the disk. Since it was the right size and only $29 I thought I'd order another one. This one was black plastic and so light and cheaply made I couldn't believe it. As soon as I started using it it immediately froze a few minutes into the movie and I had to start over. After I played a couple of movies it froze completely and will no longer recognize any DVD's. Obviously the laser that reads the disk is the cheapest of the cheap and just wears out immediately. This piece of junk will be going in the trash can along with the other one.
