Programming Microsoft Visual Basic .NET (Core Reference) ReviewThis is the best programming book I have ever read. 1600 of pages of intelligent descriptions and code examples. First you learn the VB.NET language, then you dive into chapters that cover a specific realms like Attributes, Threading, Win32, ADO.NET, ASP.NET, and alot more.
As big as the book is, it does not cover everything and I dont think any book could. Hopefully the author comes up with a volumn II book that covers Network classes, Remoting, and more.
Note that this book is not for the faint, I would recommend reading a beginners VB.NET book. If you have VB6 experience then you will adjust real quickly because this book highlights the differences in comparison to VB.NET. In fact there are alot of VB6 examples side-by-side w/ VB.NET examples. As a bonus the book comes with a cd that contains Franscesco's VB 6 book. There will be many times the VB.NET book will point you to a chapter in that VB 6 book.Programming Microsoft Visual Basic .NET (Core Reference) Overview

Windows Forms Programming in C# ReviewWindows Forms Programming in C# doesn't disappoint.
The book quickly dives into the basics of form development, layout and resources. Even though the topic is somewhat introductory to someone who's done a lot of Windows Form development, the book is written in such a way that there was several times still found myself learning something new. I particularly enjoyed the chapters on drawing, there's always something interesting to be found when working with GDI+.
200 pages later, I found myself in a chapter that discusses a topic that you rarely see in any Windows programming book - Printing. This chapter is worth the price of the book alone to have it on your shelf as a reference guide. You won't find a more detailed coverage of printing anywhere else.
While I could go on and on about each individual chapter, I wanted to point out one that I particularly found helpful - Chapter 14 on Multithreaded User Interfaces. I had originally read part of this in an MSDN article, and was looking forward to the full content - and wasn't disappointed: Asynchronous operations, Safety and Multithreading, Callbacks (synchronous and asynchronous), etc. are all covered.
Anyways, I could go on and on - there are plenty of tasty .NET morsels in here to keep both the novice and experienced developer consumed with this book.Windows Forms Programming in C# OverviewMuch of the publicity around .NET has focused on using .NET to build Webbased applications. Many developers, however, are using .NET to build traditional Windows-based applications. Microsoft has provided a package called Windows Forms, or WinForms, which makes the development of these apps easier and faster than ever. Chris Sells has written the definitive book to help experienced Microsoft developers master the use of this powerful toolkit.Based on the experience he has gained developing with and teaching WinForms for the last two years, he goes beyond other books currently on the market. Chris has a critically acclaimed writing style that allows him to keep the material concise and easy to follow. He concentrates on what you won't find in the documentation, giving developers the information they really need.Reviewers are already calling this "the best WinForms book around", "the definitive book for every Windows Programmer", and "without a doubt the best and most useful C#/WinFOrms book I have ever read." We will be publishing a Visual Basic .NET version later this year.

Pro .NET 2.0 Windows Forms and Custom Controls in C# ReviewDon't buy this book if you need to learn ADO.NET, file access, the common language runtime, or any other "starter" .NET topic. This book isn't a general introduction to writing a Windows application. (If you want that, read Jesse Liberty's fairly good "Programming .NET Windows Applications" instead.)
This book is a drill-down, no-holds-barred, VERY comprehensive look at programming advanced WinForms interfaces. It gives the full details on every control, complete with great advice for customizing and extending them. (Custom controls are a major theme in this book.) There's excellent content here that just can't be found in the MSDN, like tips for using layout engines, mixing web and windows contet, and multithreading an interface. This book was written with support from Microsoft's Windows Forms team, and it shows--the content on many subjects is several degrees more comprehensive that any I've seen before.
All in all, this is a stand-out choice for professional developers who already know .NET and C#.Pro .NET 2.0 Windows Forms and Custom Controls in C# OverviewBy using C# and the final beta of NET 2.0, this book covers Windows Forms and GDI+ namespaces thoroughly for the .NET programmer in 2005. Experienced author Matthew MacDonald achieves this by combining careful treatment of the API with detailed discussion of solid user-interface design principles. This is an update for .NET 2.0 of MacDonald's previous edition (1590590457) which gained wide community recognition. Upon reading this edition, you will be equipped to design state-of-the-art Windows interfaces and program graphics, and know how to create your own controls. As a developer, you must know more than simply adding a control to a window. You must be able to create an entire user interface framework that's scalable, flexible, and reusable. Although this book is not a reference manual, it contains detailed discussions about user interface elements you'll use on a regular basis. You will learn to use .NET controls, as well as extend them with your own custom controls.
