AOC LC27H060 27-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV ReviewI bought this little darling at Ultimate Electronics at a super-low special price. Having never heard of this brand before I wanted to see it in person to make sure it looked okay. Walking up to the display this tv had the most ghastly picture I'd ever seen, dark and murky. We asked the salesman about it and, with a shrug, he said that's why it was so cheap and promptly pointed us to a much higher priced tv nearby. Husband promptly shifted his attention to the pricier tv but I'm a 30-year television broadcast engineer and I simply did not believe this tv could look _that bad_.
So I spent about 10 minutes tweaking the settings (the salesman couldn't find a remote for it, he claimed) using the menu buttons on the side. I didn't get it looking perfect, but close enough to convince me the store had the settings horribly messed up and the tv wasn't bad. So we bought it.
Getting it home and setting it up, right out of the box this little tv looked _splendid_. It is crisp and sharp with excellent color and definition. We also have two other HD tvs, a 63" and a 65" to compare to and I can safely say this AOC looks very good. We have it hooked up to Direct TV HD.
One picture downside--it needs to be watched at a pretty much straight-on angle. Looking at it from off to the sides, the picture deteriorates; watchable but not as good.
There are three HDMI inputs, one set of composite, one set of component, one optical audio out, one USB, one VGA, one S-video, one coax. The audio is only okay. Adequate for my purpose (a spare tv in my home office), but good audio would require an add-on home theater or stereo. The sound from the on-board speakers is clear enough but they're small speakers.
It came well-packed with plastic protective coatings on every surface, so I think it's unlikely to have out-of-the-box damage unless the box was outright smashed. It's very light, so if you're wall-mounting one person can handle it easily.

Coby TFDVD2295 22-Inch 720p Widescreen LCD HDTV/Monitor with DVD Player and HDMI Input (Black) ReviewI purchased the Coby TFDVD2295 22 inch TV to put on my computer desk down in my basement "man cave". I've found the Coby to be a mixed bag of good and not so good things. Here are my pro's and con's, along with some discussion.
Pros:
- It's packed with features ... plenty of input jacks, it reads/plays USB flash drives and SD cards, and has dual ATSC/NTSC tuners.
- The DVD player plays all formats, including both the + and - R/RW CDs and DVDs. I was leaning toward buying a costlier Toshiba unit, until I discovered that for propietary reasons, it only plays the -R CD's and DVD's, but I've been recording things using the +R format. (If you only play commercially produced DVD's and don't record your own, this is not a problem for you either way.)
- Except as noted below in my "cons" section, the HD picture is bright and sharp. (Analog pictures are somewhat less so.)
- The sound is adequate for the size and price of the TV, and there is an output that allows you to run a cable to your stereo system, if so desired.
Cons:
- The viewing angles are VERY poor. I put this unit on my computer desk over my monitor, so that the bottom of the Coby's screen is at my eye level, about three feet away, which works out to a viewing angle of less than 20 degrees to the center of the TV. The picture is washed out at that angle, and the darker colors are very washed out. I have other LCD's and this unit's viewing angle is the worst.
- The TV stand is not tiltable. I have another inexpensive, small LCD TV, and the stand was such that you could tilt the unit 15 - 20 degrees up or down. While I can't give the Coby too a big demerit on this, as most other LCD TVs are not tiltable either, it would have been nice if they had made some provision to be able to tilt the unit, especially given how poor of a viewing angle the set has. And the TV is too top-heavy for me to put a magazine or such under the back of the stand to safely tilt it myself.
- So far as I can tell, you only get one picture screen aspect. My other TVs have several different screen aspects, so that if you're watching an old format 4 X 3 analog show, you can choose an aspect that doesn't stretch and distort the picture so much. Again, this is an inexpensive TV, but not everything you watch is going to be in a 16 X 9, widescreen format.
- The unit is slow to turn on, and slow to change channels. I knew that going in, as it's a common trait among many LCD TV's, so while this doesn't bother me (much), I mention it in case this is a show stopper for you.
The TV does have a wall-mountable design (VESA 100mm x 100mm). I ordered a good VESA mount for seventeen dollars through Amazon that will allow the TV to be tilted, so hopefully this will eliminate my viewing angle problem. While I don't really want to wall mount this unit, I don't feel that the TV's shortcomings amount to something that would justify a return to Amazon.
I was looking for an inexpensive TV/DVD combo to casually watch sports, movies, and news while on my computer. While this unit fits that bill, it has problems for me primarily based on poor viewing angles. However, if you don't plan on having it close to and above you, this should not be a problem. I give this unit 3 stars.Coby TFDVD2295 22-Inch 720p Widescreen LCD HDTV/Monitor with DVD Player and HDMI Input (Black) Overview
