Ectaco XL-1500 Partner Multilingual Talking Dictionary ReviewI was so dissapointed by this product. I had hoped to use it to identify and translate Japanses words and practice pronouncing them correctly.
It takes many steps to do simple translations. This was frustrating in a relaxed atmopshere. It would be near impossible underpressure.
When you press for the talking translation it sounds like a tired robot in a large can. Extremely difficult to identify what it is saying let alone try and duplicate it.
The other deal breaker was it only uses batteries. There is no way to charge it when not in use. You would need to carry around a case of batteries while traveling in order to use it throughout a trip.

Ectaco ML350 Handheld Electronic Universal Translator Dictionary ReviewI really hate to bust on an American-made product, but this one fell far short of my expectations.
First, the product description is way off. This product does *not* contain an MP3 player, have an SD slot, or a rechargeable battery.
Second, the CD that comes with it has badly outdated software that-- in my case-- wants to map my keyboard to French. It kindly offered me an upgrade for much more money than I cared to pay.
Third, it claims to have a dictionary of 4,000,000 words. I won't doubt that, but it must mean it contains 4,000,000 words across *all* of the many languages it supports. It falls far short of being useful even for a high school French class. (If you want to look up "taxi," you'll be fine. If you want to look up "ramer" -- to row a boat-- you won't find it in there.)

The audio for this translator is HORRIBLE, and some of the translations were not correct! After 5 minutes of playing with this translator I was on the phone getting a return code so I could send it back. So please whatever you do, DO NOT BUY THIS TRANSLATOR!!! I wouldnt pay $10 for it! Franklin TES-121 Spanish-English Phrasebook & Translator ReviewI bought this because it said it had 800,000 translations and was fairly cheap, but I was left frustrated and disappointed. A few missing words: spinach, lettuce, lethargic, and many more. These may not be essential words, but every pocket or electronic dictionary I've checked since included those words. Also, there aren't 800,000 translations. There are that many verb conjugations (which isn't a lot if you consider that 1 verb can have 50 conjugations, maybe more). Also, some grammatical issues. The word "best" is Spanish is "mejor." However, this indicates that no, mejor does not mean best. "lo más bueno" means best. This is the equivalent of saying "the most good" in English. Same thing with the word worst. The word "peor" is not in the dictionary. Someone might be able to understand that "the most bad" means "worst," but for students or anyone else learning the language or trying to improve their Spanish vocabulary, this dictionary is horrible. Spend the extra bucks on the fantastic DBE-1470. That dictionary has it all. It also gives come context, and... well, this isn't a review for that product. The Franklin TES-120 is a horrible dictionary and I'm sure there are many other issues with it that I didn't spend the time finding. If you'd like to improve your Spanish, do not buy this product as you will be let down by its limited capabilities and vocabulary.Franklin TES-121 Spanish-English Phrasebook & Translator Overview

Lingo Voyager 5 Translator ReviewIt supports 20 languages. That is many. However, the vocabulary is limited with often used words. It will be very helpful for globe travellers.
It is also quite thin and lightweight which is very good. It comes with leather case even if it does not fit in exactly.
It pronounce the words. That is very good for a good communication and learning the words right.
It has many functions other than being dictionary like time zone support, calculator, games, etc.
The screen is quite big and easy to read. It would be great to have a color screen, LCD display even a touch screen. As the technology developed so fast and there are products with LCD display touch screen in the same price range on the market, that would be reasonable to imagine.

Lingo Direct TT-5500 Euro 5 Talk 5 Language Talking Translator ReviewI found this to be a pretty good translator. You can fold the screen down to the keyboard which makes it very compact and easy to carry around. They keyboard is very detailed yet easy to figure out and use. I'm also happy with the translations and how easily you can switch between the various languages.
The reasons I knocked off two stars:
1) The sound quality for saying/pronouncing the words/phrases is horrible, barely better than nothing.
2) When you look up words, they supply just on translation for each word for the target foreign language, ignoring the fact that there are often more than one corresponding words.Lingo Direct TT-5500 Euro 5 Talk 5 Language Talking Translator Overview

handy translator and it is easy to use. The calculator comes in handy to convert dollars to Euros, the clock lets me know the time at home to know when to call too.
I would recommend it to others.

English voice is clear and crisp, Spanish is so-so, Japanese and Hebrew are totally unintelligible. Franklin 16 Language Speaking Phrase Translator EST-4016 ReviewThis is a fun little phrase book. My son and I have been having fun comparing the languages on this. However, the Japanese is somewhat muffled, and cut-off in places. This is not a problem if you can read the translation. I thought there would be more phrases in it, but all in all it is a good little device.
