Commander Remote & Presenter with Built in Trackball for PC Computers & Multi Media - Designed for Personal Home Use or Public Presentations ReviewI plan to use this as an HTPC remote for XBMC with TMT3 and Media Player Classic as external players. The item performed as advertised but there are just a few quirks that I've observed. The most important buttons for me when navigating in XBMC are the arrows and Enter button. The arrow buttons aren't strategically placed. They are placed next to each other which makes it very difficult to navigate if you are used with the traditional DVD player remotes. The Enter key is placed below the trackball so when I tried navigating through XBMC, it takes some getting used to specially if you are using just one hand to control the remote. I still use the thumbs of my 2 hands for faster navigation with the separately placed keys. The trackball's smooth scrolling is a plus but it sometimes become so sensitive that when the remote is just slightly nudged, the mouse pointer moves. The absence of the START button is a big minus.
When I use the Media feature of the remote, the stop, play, pause buttons didn't work with the external players that I've mentioned. With all the various media players that you can use, this remote isn't universal. I am stll in the search of a player where these buttons will work. I still need to figure out how to enter letters in naming files. i already installed the software, but it seems that instead of letters being typed using the number keys, the numbers are the ones that are entered.
The remote looks promising and the trackball feature with the left and right mouse buttons are the strong points of this gadget. The functions of most buttons would respond as expected. It's just a matter of memorizing the layout of the remote through continued use in order to maximize its capability.
