Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS70S 7MP Digital Camera with 3x Image Stabilized Zoom ReviewThis is a a very easy to use camera. I like that you can use the exposure control with the push of a button instead of going into de menu and the settings. So you can go from taking a picture under the shade to one with no shade and have the same exposure with a lot of ease and not looking around for the menu on the LCD display.
It has very good image quality and light, and has a image stabilizer that allows you to take pictures still even if your had shakes.
There is an normal mode: -intermediate users
It has a lot of options for different kind of displays en purposes. You have 4:3 ratio to display on standard TVs or monitors, thinking of slide shows or wall papers. It gives you different size options, up to 7.2 MP
It has a 3X2 ratio that is optimized for printing 4X6 pictures or bigger prints. Althoug this only gives 2 MP or 6 MP pictures.
It also has a 16:9 ratio for displaying or slide shows to be watched on widescreen TV's or Monitors. -This is my fave setting. But it only gives you 2 MP or 5.5 MP sizes.
You can turn on and off the digital zoom, in my case I don't like it so I turned it off, but you might like it and you may turn it off and while zooming in it will tell you once you start digitally zooming.
It has a basic mode: -beginners
It sets up everything automatically and with very basic options instead of size in MP it gives you options like email pictures, 4X6 or enlarge. With everyday language instead of techie language
It has a scene mode: -more advanced
This allows you to take pictures according to the lighting, weather conditions, portraits, sports etc. This gives you more control over how you want to take your pictures.
It Takes video in standard 4:3 format and 16:9 Widescreen format, which is not very common in this price range or in cameras in general. Still i prefer to have a camcorder to shoot video.
The only two things I don't like is the LCD screen which is bigger than the ones in my previos 2 cameras, is exposed to being touched, so you have to keep cleaning it if you don't want your finger prints on it. The battery life seems shorter than the Canon A75 that I replaced, but I guess that's because it records bigger files, has a bigger display and only uses half the batteries two instead of four. I'd recommend as with all digital cameras to get rechargable batteries as well as at least a 1 GB memory card. With 2 GB with the Widescreen at 5.5 MP it takes under 800 pictures, files are about 2 MB each so the 27 mb internal memory woulld barely allow me to take 13 pictures, less in 3:2 mode and even less on 4:3 7.2 MP format.
At this price range you won't find a better camera, even some 5 MP or 6 MP cameras are selling even higher than this one.
Before I bouhght it I did a lot of research and tried a lot of cameras of different brands and different MP size and this one was the one I like the best for quality image and options, most cameras don't have Widescreen option which I was very interested. This is good for beginners, intermediate or expert.
This is the same as the Lumix LZ7S except for the zoom wichi has a bigger range on the other one, but for 3X you would have to pay 50 bucks more.Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS70S 7MP Digital Camera with 3x Image Stabilized Zoom OverviewPanasonic Lumix DMC-LS70S 7MP Digital Camera with 3x Image Stabilized Zoom. 7.2-megapixel CCD captures enough detail for photo-quality 15 x 20-inch prints. 3x image-stabilized optical zoom; 2.0-inch LCD display. Veho VCC-002 Kuzo High Definition 1080p SD Camcorder (20x Optical/digital zoom) 3.0 inch Touchscreen ReviewI bought this camcorder so I could take videos of my kids' sports teams. After 3 weekends of tournaments (and 15 or so hours of video, this camera was perfect for me. The DVD quality mode, 60 frames per second, is perfect for my needs. (I didn't even realize it had a 60 fps mode when I bought it, but that's the mode I use the most!). The HD modes are choppy at 30 fps and it only supports HD @ 30fps.
Bottom Line: If you want weekend videos for cheap, this thing is GREAT!
Cons:
1. There is no North American wall plug, it only comes with a European style plug. (But it charges just the same from a USB port and an iPhone wall charger works too! )
2. The zoom only focuses AFTER you stop zooming so it's blurry during the zooming in/out. It's not a big deal for my needs, but just be aware.Veho VCC-002 Kuzo High Definition 1080p SD Camcorder (20x Optical/digital zoom) 3.0 inch Touchscreen Overview

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8K 7.2MP Digital Camera with 12x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Black) ReviewI have used quite a variety of point and shoot digital cameras over the years and for not much more money this camera is infinitely better than all of them. I really appreciate the size and quality feel of this camera's construction, the intuitive controls, and all of the included accessories (Leica lens, lens adapter, lens hood, etc). I was able to figure out the controls and start taking great pictures within a half hour of opening the box.
As a novice but "improving" photographer, I love the adaptability of this camera. Many light conditions can be overcome with just a few tweaks to the settings. The shutter speed is also a godsend as compared to the Canon point-and-shoot models. Just hold the button down and the rapid-fire shots pour into this camera. I am also absolutely thrilled with the battery life - hundreds of pics on one charge! This is a crucial improvement over the older cameras that absolutely devoured AA batteries.
On the downside, this camera is bigger than a point and shoot so carrying it can be an issue. Also, the internal memory is a joke, so I recommend that you buy a 2 gig memory card immediately. With that card installed I can store well over 500 high quality shots.
Basically if you are a no-fuss user, set it on simple mode and take a lot of great pics. If you are more advanced and take the time to figure out ISO seetings, you can set up some VERY good shots with this camera. I would never call it the be-all end-all digital camera but you will not find an equally good set of features without spending hundreds more. Highly recommended!Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8K 7.2MP Digital Camera with 12x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Black) OverviewCL) PANASONIC DMC-FZ8K DIGITAL CAM

Sony DSC-W350 14.1MP Digital Camera with 4x Wide Angle Zoom with Optical Steady Shot Image Stabilization and 2.7 inch LCD (Silver) ReviewI was looking for a small camera to keep with me when I didn't want to lug my big and heavy pro grade DSLR, and I'm finding the Sony generally works out for me pretty well. It's easy-to-use and relatively high performance for a compact point and shoot camera, and it's capable of producing good images under a wide range of conditions when used properly.
I usually start my camera shopping by paying close attention to the lens, and the Sony comes with a Carl-Zeiss 4x zoom, biased towards the wide-angle end of the spectrum. I generally favor less zoom range if it means getting a higher quality picture, and this is exactly the approach Sony implements. Yes, you can get 5x - even 10x - zooms in camera like these, but in my experience, the sacrifice in image quality isn't worth it. Sony's 4x tends to mean I get pretty solid lens performance in a useful zoom range. To be clear, any DSLR with a good quality lens will beat the pants off the small lens on this sort of compact camera, but that's the nature of the beast...besides, if I'm doing something where absolute best performance is a requirement, I'm carrying my heavy-duty DSLR and lenses that cost ten times what this Sony does - that's not the mission I have in mind for the Sony anyway.
The 14.1MP sensor seems to be high quality, so long as you're using the camera in well and evenly lit conditions. Where the camera struggles somewhat is low light (high ISO), or when there is substantial dynamic range (difference between brightest and darkest parts of an image). Under good conditions - bright and evenly lit - the sensor provides excellent detail, certainly way more than adequate for email, web sites or prints up to maybe A3 (13x19 inch) size. Still, under more challenging lighting, the Sony may be a bit disappointing...where a large DSLR can capture details in highlights and shadow, the Sony tends to blow out the highlights or will transform shadows into a sea of black. Again, this is really normal for cameras with small image sensors - the Sony's performance is very good indeed considering the small form factor and product price point.
The camera's built-in software is also very good, helping to capture lots of detail even as images are compressed to manageable sized JPG files. In Photoshop, I compared a Sony-compressed image to a similar image taken by a pro grade DSLR, and there are few if any differences due to the image processing. Noise reduction and sharpening is handled well, and there are few digital artifacts visible. This is really the best performance I've seen for a camera in this price range.
In terms of construction quality, the camera is solid and seems to be well built. Most of the controls are easy to use, and you don't get the sense of "fighting" against it. The 2.7" LCD display is sharp and easy to use, although it can be a bit difficult in bright sunlight or for those like me with aging eyes that struggle with small text on the screen. Performance is generally quick, and you're not waiting for the camera to figure out what to do next. The camera is small, and one thing that helps me is Sony's well-designed image stabilization feature. I tend to have a hard time holding small cameras steady, and image stabilization helps me get sharp photos in most conditions.
Sony adds a number of cool features, such as Sweep Panorama, that allows you to take multiple pictures of a scene, and then have them "stitched" together in the camera for a wide panorama view. I have similar software in Photoshop to do this, but it's cool to see it implemented right in the camera. Sony also provides a workable HDR (High Dynamic Range) capability in the camera, giving you a way to handle certain otherwise difficult scenes. Both of these features make up for camera limitations, such as low dynamic range capabilities of small sensors and the limited zoom range. Sony also makes it easy to upload photos and videos to popular sharing sites, saving you a few steps from doing this on the computer.
The camera can also record HD (720p) video clips up to half an hour long. I rarely use this feature, so other than to say it works, I'll leave that one to other reviewers.
I considered several other choices from Nikon, Canon, Pentax and even the new Leica X1. I like Nikon because the software and menus are the same as my DSLR (also a Nikon). Canon seemed to produce slightly better image quality. I've owned several Pentax point-and-shoot digital cameras and found them rugged and long lasting. And of course, the Leica is in a class by itself in terms of quality. Still, while all of these competitors offered unique advantages, the overall package of price and performance seemed to be best with the Sony - at least today.
Overall, considering the price, I'm happy with the Sony DSC-W350 and would recommend it to anyone wanting a low-cost, easy to use digital camera that gives good quality images under a wide variety of conditions.

Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-TX100V 16.2 MP Exmor R CMOS Digital Still Camera with 3.5-inch OLED Touchscreen, 3D Sweep Panorama, and Full HD 1080/60p Video (Silver) ReviewI've had this camera for a few days now and here are my thoughts:
The Good:
1) Fantastic pictures with very good low-light handling and fast start-up (around 1 sec).
2) Very easy movie mode. You just press the movie button on the touchscreen to start/stop. No fumbling through menus. The video quality is excellent as well, and you can record in both MP4 and the finer MTS (AVCHD). Audio is pretty decent and in stereo.
3) You can take pictures (sans flash) while recording videos.
4) The OLED screen is really detailed and impressive.
5) The panorama shots are easy to perform and very cool. I LOVE this feature.
6) The camera gets charged by connecting it to the USB (no need to take the battery out).
7) The touch focus (tap where you want to focus) and touch zoom during review (zooms in where you tap) are nice features.
8) Aesthetically speaking it's a pretty camera.
The Bad:
1) The touchscreen isn't all that great. It is resistive and not capacitive so I guess that explains it. I also have the Samsung ST600 with a 3.5" capacitive touchscreen and it is so much more responsive in comparison.
2) The cover is a pain to open. This is my first Sony camera with the push down cover so I don't know if all the others have been this way, but it seems more difficult than it needs to be. You have to push it down DIRECTLY from the top or you won't have any luck, and if you take a close look at the cover there really isn't much top. I'm not kidding about this. If you have fat fingers (and I don't) it may be even harder for you.
3) Access to the HDMI port is just a plastic clip held in place with a cheap rubber attachment. For the price of the camera they should have hinged it like a door.
4) It only has 4 language settings (English, French, Spanish, Japanese) unlike some cameras that have practically every language you can think of. Not a big deal but I would have thought Sony would have provided more in case you needed the option. In conclusion, I guess I would buy it again despite the negatives. It's not perfect and it's definitely overpriced in my opinion, but it's also a nice well-protected little camera that you can just take along anywhere for great pictures or HD videos on the fly.
The HDMI is a mini type C connection if you'd like to order that along with the camera. The case that is recommended by Sony for this camera is model# LCS-TWK (which currently comes in black, pink and blue). I have one and it's really nice, although it does add some bulk to the whole camera package.
This isn't an extensive review, but I just wanted to throw some quick comments in there since I don't see many reviews anywhere for this particular model. I may add more info later when I've had more time with it.[MORE - 2011/04/20]
I'm not a professional photographer by any means so I really can't comment on any professional aspects of photography when it comes to this camera. I can say that it takes excellent pictures and videos as far as I'm concerned. I had a chance to watch the video hooked up to a large screen TV via HDMI and I was thoroughly impressed! I'm not going to post any sample videos here but you can find some on youtube and they look just as gorgeous. I'm very happy with its capability in that regard. Also, the zoom while taking videos is smooth and SILENT! (not the audio, the zoom motor is really quiet). The colors are rich and the shots are crisp, and I must repeat how incredibly well this camera handles low-light conditions (particularly in videos because obviously you can't utilize the flash in that mode). On the downside, it does takes approximately 3 full seconds for the video to start recording after you've pressed the record button. That seems a bit slow to me.
I don't have a 3D TV so I'm not able to test that feature, but there's also this thing called Sweep Multi Angle that works like the panorama shot. The final product is a kind of moving picture that changes perspective as you tilt the camera left and right. I laughed the first time I saw that! It's just an extra fun thing you can do until the novelty wears off I guess.
The biggest negative I see for this camera is still the touchscreen. It doesn't seem to be all there and seems somewhat buggy. Sometimes it's hypersensitive and sometimes it just seems to lag. It does get irritating. The GUI is also sub-par. The buttons are kind of tiny and the whole interface is just rather dull. It's just not that refined. The camera does come with a stylus that you can hook to the strap and that helps a little. Also, I know that a lot of the newer cameras with accelerometers have features where you can just tilt the camera or tap it to shuffle though your shots, but this camera has none of that. It's just button presses or finger swipes (and the finger swipe doesn't work that well).
And speaking of fingers... because of the placement of the lens I seem to be getting my finger in the shot rather easily ^_^. I guess I need to start holding the camera differently or something.
The thing I do like a lot is the form factor. When it's closed it feels rock solid and protected. That along with its amazing pictures and videos and its unique features makes this camera worthwhile for me. I just wish it came with a capacitive touchscreen (like iphones and droids). That would make this thing totally awesome. But if you don't have that much experience with touchscreens in general you may not notice at all, so maybe I'm being too picky. It's not a terrible touchscreen by any means, but it could be better.
Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-TX100V 16.2 MP Exmor R CMOS Digital Still Camera with 3.5-inch OLED Touchscreen, 3D Sweep Panorama, and Full HD 1080/60p Video (Silver) OverviewThe Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX100V features a 4x optical zoom Carl Zeiss lens, a 16.2 MP CMOS image sensor, 3200 max ISO for taking pictures in low light conditions, a 3.5-inch OLED LCD screen that displays 1,229,000 pixels, HD video recording at 1080p quality, and Sony's Optical SteadyShot Image Stabilization.
